This simple check list from the Choir Schools' Association (CSA) will help you decide whether to consider choir school for your child.
If he or she enjoys singing and is aged 7+ :
- Study the map on the CSA website to find nearby school(s), checking whether they require choristers to be day or boarding pupils.
- Request a prospectus and details of choristerships from the school(s) of your choice.
- Visit the school(s) and make sure to ask what is expected of pupils academically as well as musically. Most Directors of Music will be pleased to give your child an informal voice test.
- It is important to discuss fees at this stage too. The independent choir schools offer generous choral scholarships towards the cost of their fees.
