The National Youth Chamber Choir performs the Premiere of Jessica Curry's 'She Who'.
Sunday 7 July, 4:30-5:30pm, Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer, free
Plus Pop-Up Performances: 1-1.30pm & 3-3.30pm
‘She Who’ is a timely celebration of the powerful, beautiful collective voice of women and youth, created by BAFTA Award-winning composer Jessica Curry and commissioned by NYCGB for the National Youth Chamber Choir. At 4.30pm, Curry introduces two complete performances of the work; there are also two special 30 minute pop-up gigs (1pm, 3pm), with snippets of ‘She Who’ and music by female composers.
Jessica Curry uses settings of poems by American feminist poet Judy Grahn to weave together themes of humanity and connectivity to create an electrifying piece that speaks of hope and female power for the young voices of the National Youth Chamber Choir. Jessica is an internationally acclaimed BAFTA winning composer and co-founder of renowned games company The Chinese Room. Her work has been performed in diverse and high profile venues such as The Old Vic Tunnels, Sydney Opera House, Great Ormond Street Hospital, MOMI New York, The Royal Opera House, and Durham Cathedral.
A second performance is taking place at The Guildhall, Hull on Saturday 13 July, 1-2pm.
This event is free and un-ticketed and no pre-booking is required.
